INFORMATION FOR PARENTS
Your child’s work experience placement will give them an excellent insight into
work in a [stud or stable]. The experience could be a valuable addition to their
CV and may boost their prospects in their career.
Working in a yard instils great discipline in its workforce and it is inspiring
to work with young racehorses and to see them succeed. It is an outdoor life
where enthusiasm, teamwork, a love of horses and a willingness to get stuck
in are valued.
Every member of the team has a valuable contribution to make.
The racing industry offers some fantastic opportunities for young people. Your son
or daughter may be all ready to get started but it is only natural that as a parent or
guardian you will have lots of questions. Many of those will be answered by this
letter or see www.careersinracing.com for much more information.
Please encourage your son or daughter to do their best, dress appropriately
and arrive at work on time, or better still early. The world of work is challenging
and very different from school. Through your support your child will gain real
insight into the world of horseracing and breeding and will begin to develop the
employability skills that are critical when applying for work.
Please encourage them to show you, and work to complete, the work experience
diary that they will be issued with, capturing the tasks completed and the learning
points of each day.
