• Promote and maintain safety of self and others in line with the Law and all Health and Safety Policies and Procedures
• Minimise all risks by working safely, supporting others effectively, as part of a team
• Use an exercise whip effectively in either hand, down the shoulder, maintaining organised reins and an appropriate and consistent level of contact
• Respond appropriately, seek help and report all accidents, in line with best practice
• Set an example by always wearing the PPE required when handling horses
• Recognise when a casualty may have concussion and respond in line with guidelines
Welfare
• Work in line with best practice in welfare standards and biosecurity measures
• Respect all legislative and industry requirements relating to welfare
• Proactively support all Horse Welfare Board and racing industry priorities relating to welfare
• Ensure that every horse, regardless of age, experience, character and behaviour is always in the best possible positive welfare situation
• Interact with, handle and ride all horses positively, at all times, including those with challenging behaviour
• Accurately identify and consistently communicate all factors that may compromise the physical and mental health, wellbeing and performance of the horse at exercise
