Tack & Equipment
• Demonstrate specialist racing industry code specific( Flat or Jump) skills required to ride and support the education and training of Thoroughbreds
• Effectively support the education and training of every Thoroughbred, at every stage of their racing career
• Effectively support the early education process as horses are introduced to ridden work
• Safely ride away and progress the preparation and training of inexperienced horses and those returning from rest or injury
• Effectively and competently ride horses that are behaviourally challenging in training
• Introduce horses to the stalls supporting preparation and training
• Ride horses in the stalls to build confidence and improve behaviour and performance
• Introduce, ride and teach horses to jumping and schooling over obstacles
• Suggest, select and fit specialist tack and equipment to support the rider and allow the horse to achieve the best possible performance at home and at the racecourse
• Improve jumping performance over hurdles and fences
• Assess the stage of readiness and level of fitness required to race
• Use a comprehensive knowledge of breeding and impact of breeding to assess individual characteristics and performance potential
• Accurately assess a horse’ s speed, stamina and ability to suggest appropriate distance( trip) and level of competition
• Apply knowledge of racecourse configurations, ground, surface, terrain, grading of races to provide critical, detailed, reasoned feedback
• Ride at speed including track work, racecourse gallops, Breeze-up sales
• Ride horses for veterinary evaluation such as overground endoscopic analysis
• Ride horses for sales presentation
• Provide consistent and accurate judgements to inform planning and decision making
