• Fundamental principles of riding at speed to maximise the training and education of all horses
• Importance of the effective rider position required to ride at speed, over an obstacle and out of the stalls
• Understand the factors( including pain, training and management) that can contribute to a horse exhibiting challenging or unwanted behaviour
• How training methods can be adapted to meet horses’ individual needs
• Selecting the most appropriate aids to encourage the required response and performance
• How to ride and improve any horse, including an unfamiliar horse, intelligently in a range of surroundings with due regard and support for others
• Advantages and disadvantages of types of surfaces and going
• Adaptations to make when environmental conditions present different challenges to horse and rider
• Improve horses and establish consistent way of going
• Understand variations in speed within paces
• How to support and guide other riders to maximise training and performance of all horses exercising individually, in a pair, in a group, as a string
• How to assess and describe fitness levels reporting on response to activity, soundness, education and training requirements
• How to assess and describe the optimum going and distance requirements for individual horses
• Understand the effect of breeding on individual characteristics and performance potential
