• Necessary preparations for mounting a quiet Thoroughbred from a block or leg up, including checking the girth and pulling down stirrups
• Why and how to adjust stirrups and check girths, safely on the move and without assistance
• Why and how to check and adjust the girth mounted at exercise and rechecking before cantering or faster work
• Reasons for using a double bridge
• Importance of riding at an appropriate length of stirrup to maintain balance at walk, trot and canter on a quiet Thoroughbred
• Subtle aids( cues or signals) the rider can give to ask the quiet Thoroughbred to walk, trot, canter and halt including leg, hands, voice and seat
Tack & Equipment
• Racing specific equestrian tack and equipment in common use
• Basic parts of the racing saddle, bridle and bits, commonly used
• Importance of fitting racing tack safely and comfortably
• Principles of putting on, taking off, cleaning and storing industry specific tack
