• How to work safely, maintaining the health, safety and security of horses, self and others
• Own responsibilities under Health and Safety at Work legislation
• Recognise any problems and potential hazards and to report to the appropriate person
• How to report accidents promptly, in accordance with workplace policy
• Understand additional risks posed by environmental factors and adverse weather conditions such as wind, ice and snow
• Recognise equine body language and the information communicated
• Road Safety and the Highway Code relating to horses
• That the whip is an important safety tool to protect horse and rider safety
Welfare
• Basic horse welfare requirements to maintain health and wellbeing
• Basic principles of biosecurity and measures to keep horses healthy and promote wellbeing
• Own responsibilities under Animal Welfare legislation
• Understand that each interaction with a horse matters, affects their mental wellbeing, how they think and feel
