Tack & Equipment
• Mount and unmount safely from the ground, a mounting block or leg up, with assistance
• Safely adjust stirrups with foot in whilst standing still, with assistance
• Check and adjust girth whilst standing still, with assistance
• Hold reins correctly singularly and in a bridge, as directed
• Adopt and maintain an appropriate length of rein to remain in control, as directed
• Use the neck strap to support balance and control
• Assist with preparing a horse for tacking up
• Assist with putting on and fitting tack so it is comfortable for the horse and safe for the rider
• Follow instructions to ride at an appropriate length of stirrup and maintain balance at walk and trot, independent of hands
• Walk and trot a quiet horse safely with control, in an enclosed space
• Keep a safe distance from other horses and people on the ground
• Recognise and ride on the correct diagonal in trot, changing direction as instructed
• Assist to untack, clean and store equipment appropriately

• Follow instructions to wear the appropriate PPE when handling and riding
• Keep a safe distance away from people and other horses in the enclosed area
• Interact and work positively to protect the horses’ mental and physical wellbeing
• Work safely to instructions, always respecting the horse and colleagues
• Use rewards( stroke, scratch, voice, pressure release of aids) to make positive interactions with horses
