• Risks of working with horses and the importance of following instructions to work safely
• Basic body language and communication of the horse and the signals they give to communicate how they feel, including nervous or worried
• Horses are a flight animal, so handlers need to always work calmly, quietly and with respect
• Suitable clothing and approved standard of Personal Protective Equipment needed for riding safely including hats, body protector and boots
• Hazards of working with horses in an enclosed area
• How to work safely, riding as an individual and in a group
Welfare
• Importance of putting equine welfare first in all situations
• Need for all horses to be happy, healthy and enjoy a good life
• Responsibility of human handlers to always interact positively with the horses in their care
• How to meet the basic needs of horses for food, water, freedom and the company of others( Five Domains)
