Digital Portfolios Engage
Students and Parents
By: Kassi Simeon
Seesaw is an amazing app to showcase just about anything you can think of. With the Seesaw app, students can post text, pictures, videos, drawings, links, and other media files. In my classroom, the most common thing we post is pictures and videos. Students pick work that they are proud of and post it for their parents to see. I also have students record any special presentations so parents at home can watch, such as reading a writing piece to the class or a Google Slides group presentation. Students often read our poem of the week into Seesaw to share with family at home. If you do it in school, it can be posted into Seesaw. My favorite thing about Seesaw is how flexible it is. You can use it as little or as much as you want.
Seesaw is a unique digital experience that is increasing in popularity in elementary grades. Not only does Seesaw increase the engagement of all students, but it also increases the involvement of parents in their child’s education. Parents (and even grandparents) enjoy connecting to their child’s digital portfolio and catching a glimpse into all the wonderful things happening at school. Teachers, you must try out this innovative app!
