Marching Away with Mr. Rumrill
The Advanced band is busy getting ready for its trip to the high
note festival on Friday June 6 at the Great Escape in Lake
George, NY. The festival features bands from Vermont, New
York and Massachusetts. The festival features twenty minute
performances by each of the participating bands. The
performances are judged by members of the Castleton State
College music faculty.
The band and its director are judged on the categories of: Tone, Intonation, Playing Technique, Ensemble
Balance, Musical Interpretation and Repertoire Selection. The band has received the highest possible rating
8 of the last 9 years. This will be the band's tenth year attending the festival.
On June, 15, the marching band, which will include many members of the beginning band as well, will
participate in the annual Bellows Falls Alumni Day Parade. This is the band's performance of the school year
and is highly anticipated by the BF Alumni association every year. Please come out on June 15 and support the
BF High School graduates, the alumni, and make sure you cheer extra loud when the BFMS Band comes by!
Electrifying with Mr. Harris
In Mr. Harris’ wonderful world
of science, we have been working
with electricity, learning about
circuits, how to draw circuits,
how to create circuits, and how
they work. We will be finishing
this unit up, right before summer
break. In Math, we have been
working on our end of the year culminating
project called basketball accuracy, where the
students are shoot paper balls into buckets,
recording their data, and will be creating graphs,
equations, and answering various questions based
on their data. Summer is just around the corner,
the school year has been a great school year, with
lots of fun various units and activities in both the
math and science worlds.
News from 7th Grade Reading
Stuart Strothman
We have finally had our final independent reading
assignment! It is an art project, with a paragraph. Over the
year students have had to read at least 25 books, mostly
independently, but the ones they read for class count also.
We are nearing completion of our forty nonfiction articles
for Achieve 3000 as well—many students have reached
this mark, and some are nearing it. It should be noted that
students can log in from home to complete articles if they
have a ways to go. All students who get to forty articles
will get a grade of 100 from me for that category. In class,
we’ve been studying architecture—learning about
different houses on School Street, drawing them, reading
and writing about them, and learning new vocabulary. We
have moved from there into a short unit on disabilities,
giving a bit of an overview of definitions and categories,
to improve students’ general knowledge. I expect to finish
the year with a review of vocabulary from the entire year.
Students who have reading class in the fall will be
expected to read two books independently over the
summer. Enjoy your vacation!
Grand Finale with Mrs. Dunbar
The chorus just finished their Spring Arts Night concert in collaboration with Ms. Massucco and her Art Plus
students. Thanks to all the parents and students who helped make this possible!
In general music, we are finishing up the year by wrapping up all of the projects we have been working on. Since
Mrs. Dunbar is now on maternity, her long term substitute, Ms. Amy St. Louis has taken over the music and chorus
classes. Welcome to BFMS, Ms. St. Louis!
