Also PS so ng at Newton looki will be NECA week of May AP first full science NEC e doing some we will b of onderful world e exploring rep. In the w p to b we are going re we mathematics, ematics, whe ath ebra side of m and how we can the alg at slope, will be looking into a graph and a graph n turn an equatio Also we will be looking at tion. different into an equa tions with two to solve equa how variables. Eroding with Mr. Ferenc Volume 5, All Things Math With Mr. Oakes In the 7 th gra de mathemat currently w ics course w orking on a unit of geom e are are learning etry. Studen angle relati ts onships, ho compass to w to use a bisect lines or create par and about p allel lines, oly quadrilatera gons such as triangles and ls. Next we w unit on geo metry and ex ill be continuing our plo translations, and dilation ring reflections, s of figures. In Algebra we involving fa are currently working on cto factor and so ring. Students are lear a unit ning how to lve quadrati c different ap proaches, su equations using ch as identi differences fying of We will soo squares and completin g the square. n be using th eq will explore how its deriv uadratic formula and ation can be completing the square o a result of f a quadrati c equation. The 5/6 grade has just finished up an awesome unit centered around EROSION. We concluded this into with a stream table lab where the students have come up with a hypothesis of how to safe a town (Lego buildings) from water and soil erosion. Groups used inquiry task questions and had to construct a plan to divert the slow water flow of the stream table. The beginning of the trimester was a switching of gears and our focus will be on ecology, biology and food webs. To start this unit we will be introducing terms such as: abiotic factors, biotic factors, producers, consumers and energy pyramids. To reinforce the on celts of food webs we will be breaking into groups and role playing In To The Forest, an ecological food pyramid where the right moves earns you energy points and the wrong moves make you someone's dinner (and therefore their energy!!!)!!! Survival of the fittest is truly tested as well as the students ability to strategize and plan on how to have their organisms survive. Arguing With Mr. Aquadro In seventh grade, students are cementing the process of prewriting, writing, and revising arguments, narratives, and informative pieces. On the days when students aren’t writing, they are finishing The Enemy. We will be ending the novel by focusing on theme, and after we’ll be focusing on nonfiction. In English 9, learners are studying the 1940’s. They are reading The Diary of Anne Frank, and after, either Farewell to Manzanar or The Bomb. Students will be focusing on informative and argumentative writing. They’ll be ending the year reading short stories and writing narratives. Gym Class with Mr. Eno The 7/8 grade PE classes have just completed a unit on Indoor Lacrosse Activities. The students participated and competed in different types of lacrosse games. Our previous Unit, which was volleyball, the students had an opportunity to play after school in a Intramural program with other students and staff members. We had anywhere from 10-15 participates along with 4-6 staff members playing. Family and Consumer Science / Health Mrs. Mitchell The Family and Consumer Science/Health class will be participating in an educational program to raise the awareness of the issue of unnecessary vehicle idling in the school community. These presentation will be on April 25 &26th Wayne Michaud (Director of Idle-Free VT) will present this program. His presentation will speak to the negative impacts of idling on our health, energy, carbon, and economics.
