According to some scientists’ statistics  94% of teens use social media daily, and the effects are not positive. On top getting of  anxiety and depression from certain social media platforms, spending too much time  on social media can lead to poor sleep habits. Multiple studies have shown how the  increase use of social media has negative effects on people's’ sleep quality.   On a daily basis when entering school, before, after, or even during passing  periods kids are attached to their screens. Teens are spending more than one-third of  their days using media whether it is online videos or music. All of this adds up to  nearly nine hours on average. Many parents have the question - is this healthy for my  kids? Many interviewed parents say they are worried for the health and lessons that  the internet is teaching their children. A often worry from parents is that Internet  exposes topics that are not appropriate for the age of their children.  As technology is constantly being replaced by more advanced versions of itself  consumerism begins to come into play. For example, as new phones come out each  year millions of old phones are thrown out without a glance to ‘fit it’ with the new  generation.   Technology and social media is negatively affecting today’s society and all  aforementioned examples prove why. Not only does it lead to bad habits such as  consumerism but it also leads to the increase of mental disorders such as depression,
