Stress
What is stress?
Stress is a state of mental pressure or tension caused by adverse or very demanding circumstances. It's the body's way of rising to a challenge and preparing to meet a tough situation with focus, strength, stamina, and heightened alertness.
School: Academic pressures cause major stress for teens. In addition to fulfilling their own academic dreams, meeting a parent’s expectations can be a big weight to carry for a teen. This is especially true for those who do poorly in school or try to balance school work with extracurricular activities, spending time with friends, and chores with little interruption.
Social Life: During the teen years, people begin to focus more on their friends and social life because of the emotional, perception and social development that occurs. Teen girls gain an increased social awareness and start to care more about how others feel and see them as they develop. In addition to a teen’s romantic life or the desire for one, helping a friend with problems, bullying and peer pressure can add stress to a young person’s life.
Change: Teens flourish with routines because it gives them a sense of structure, and even a minor adjustment in routine can cause stress in some people. Changes in routine can include moving to a new home, attending a new school, a change in family dynamics, dealing with an illness or injury, a disaster or experiencing a loss.
