food shelves
Community Emergency Services (MPLS)
Did you know that nearly 1 in 10 Minnesotans worry about where they will get
their next meal? Food shelf use continues at high levels. Bethlehem accepts
food shelf donations throughout the year to address this problem. Minneapolis Campus
All-Ages Art Show
Located just 10 minutes from the Minneapolis campus, Community Emergency
Service (CES), www.cesmn.org, served over 70,000 client visits last year, giving
away half a million pounds of food. The need continues: over 3,500 children are
served by foodshelves in Minnesota every day. This year's show will take place April
1-May 30. This means all ages and all
types of art—oil, watercolor, crayon,
needleart, sculpture, and more. Please
drop off your creations in the church
office by March 25 - we cannot accept
any pieces after that date. All art
must be accompanied by name and
telephone number. Questions, please
call Shirley LaFayette, 612.825.0670.
At CES, both groceries and cash donations received in March receive a multiplier
donation from Minnesota FoodShare. Groceries that are especially needed are
100% fruit juice, cooking oil, flour and sugar (4 pound bags), canned meats,
canned fruit, canned tomato products, coffee, hygiene products (toothbrushes,
toothpaste, feminine sanitary products, toilet paper) and baby items (disposable
diapers, diaper wipes, baby powder and baby lotion). Paper grocery bags with
handles, in good condition, are always welcome. Cash donations are used to
purchase groceries from large food banks where $1.00 can purchase about 10
times more than at retail grocery stores.
Please help:
• Bring non-perishable items to one of the carts in the Gallery. Canned or
boxed items are best. Or, make a check out to “Bethlehem Lutheran,” note
CES on the memo line and place in the offering plate.
• Pray for the work of CES and those who are served
• Volunteer to work at CES on Saturday, March 30, from 10am to 12pm to
sort and stock food received during the March FoodShare Drive. Contact
Britta Iwen at [email protected] to sign up.
ICA Food Shelf (MTKA)
Only a few miles down the road from the
Minnetonka campus, ICA offers food and other
social services to those in need in the Minnetonka/
Hopkins areas. Bethlehem MTKA campus
contributed $3496.00 and 1,249 pounds of food in
2018.
During March, ICA has set a goal of $150,000 and
150,000 pounds of food as they participate in the
Second Harvest Food Drive. March's items of the month are Rice, Beans, Pasta
and Sauce. Financial gifts are also appreciated. Checks should be made out to
ICA Food Shelf.
April's Item of the Month is Canned Fruits and Vegetables. Contact Sue
Lungstrom in the office with any questions. 952.935.3419, or slungstrom@

It’s time for another Art Show!
Volunteer to Serve Coffee
on a Sunday Morning in
Minneapolis
An important part of Sunday
mornings is meeting friendly people
while enjoying a cup of coffee. We
are looking for volunteers to serve
coffee and create a friendly space
to meet others. Volunteers work as
a team making and serving during
the morning. Half the team attends
worship at the 9:15 service and the
other half at the 10:30. Between
services, when things are the busiest,
it is all hands on deck. We invite you
to come and try this ministry, it’s fun
and we think you will enjoy it. To sign
up for a Sunday go to the Bethlehem
website Signup or contact Gina
Lundgren and she will help schedule
you, 612-201-9357.
