to take necessary actions to correct their
lives or follow Jesus’ teachings. By placing
the crucial matter of a story at the end, a
narrator causes retention.
#10 Inspire the audience
Jesus’ parables are inspirational. They
are timeless and universal. Throughout
centuries they have addressed and still
continue to address people of all ages,
nationalities, and races. They work for any
audience. A central feature in parables is its
primary focus on empowering groups of
people; often those who are marginalized
or forgotten. Thus, stories can be used to
break or unite the world, heal or destroy
the world, to create or correct false myths.
A storyteller has the power to inspire.
Jesus’ parables are distinct from other
parabolic teachings in their timelessness
and
universality.
They
inspired
generations of humans. They, along with
other teachings of Jesus have been the
basis of Christianity for two millenniums.
Thus ultimately, it was a good story that
created what is now the biggest system of
faith in the world. It bears witness to the
power of good storytelling. Wouldn’t you
agree that a good storyteller is one that
changes the world?
If you wonder how you can change the
world, tell a story. After all, a good story
can, quite literally, change the world.
