Εντυπωσιακό µνηµείο µε περίτε-
χνα ψηφιδωτά, τα οποία θεωρού-
νται από τα πιο αντιπροσωπευτικά
της Πρωτοχριστιανικής Περιό-
δου. Η µορφή του θυµίζει κάτι
από το Πάνθεον της Ρώµης, µιας
και χτίστηκε τον 4ο µ.Χ. αιώνα για
τον Ρωµαίο Καίσαρα Γαλέριο, µε
σκοπό να αποτελέσει Πάνθεον ή
µαυσωλείο. Το κτίσµα έµεινε για
χρόνια ανεκµετάλλευτο, µέχρι
που µετατράπηκε σε χριστιανικό
Ναό, του Αγίου Γεωργίου, ενώ
τον 16ο αιώνα οι Οθωµανοί το
µετέτρεψαν σε τζαµί. Ανοιχτά:

ROTONDA
An impressive monument with
intricate mosaics, which are
considered to be among the most
representative of the Early Christian
period. Its form resembles of the
Pantheon in Rome, as it was built
in the 4th century AD for Caesar
Galerius from Rome, with the
purpose to be used as Pantheon or
Mausoleum. The building remained
untapped for years, until it was
converted into the Christian church,
the temple of St. George, while in
the 16th century the Ottomans
made it a mosque. Open: 1/4-21/10
