ΤΑΜΠΑΚΑΡΙΑ
Σημαντικό βιομηχανικό κέντρο κατά
τον 19ο αιώνα, το οποίο χρωστούσε
τη φήμη του στα εξαιρετικής ποιότητας
δέρματα που επεξεργάζονταν εδώ.
Οριοθετείται ανάμεσα στα Χανιά και
τη Χαλεπά, περιοχή ιδανική για την
εγκατάσταση βυρσοδεψείων που
γνώρισαν ακμή μέχρι και την περίοδο
του Μεσοπολέμου. Οι επισκέπτες
εντυπωσιάζονται από τη γραφικότητα,
αν και σήμερα παρουσιάζουν εικόνα
εγκατάλειψης.
TAMPAKARIA
In the 19th century it used to be an important
industrial center, which was famous for its
excellent quality leathers. The location,
between Chania and Chalepa, was considered
as ideal for the installation of tanneries,
which flourished until the Interwar period. The
visitors are impresse by the picturesque set-up,
athough today the area presents an image of
abandonment.
ΧΑΛΕΠΑ
Αριστοκρατική συνοικία των Χανίων, ανατολικά
της πόλης, που διατηρεί μέχρι και σήμερα την
σικ αύρα της εποχής. Αποτέλεσε πόλος έλξης
πολλών εύπορων Ελλήνων και Τούρκων χάρη
στο ιδιαίτερο κλίμα της ενώ πολύ σύντομα
αναδείχθηκε σε ξεχωριστό δήμο. Κατά τους
χρόνους της Κρητικής Πολιτείας (1896-1913),
είχαν βρει εδώ στέγη τα προξενείς των ξένων
δυνάμεων, η έδρα του Ύπατου Αρµοστή
(πρίγκιπας Γεώργιος) και το επίκεντρο όλη της
πολιτικής και διπλωµατικής ζωής. Εδώ μάλιστα
γαλουχήθηκε και ο Ελευθέριος Βενιζέλος!
HALEPA An aristocratic district in Chania, situated in the
east of the town, which until today maintains the elegant
aura of the past times. It used to be a pole of attraction
for many wealthy Greeks and Turks, thanks to its special
climate, while really soon it became a separate municipal-
ity. During the period of the Cretan State (1896-1913), it
used to house the consulates of the foreign powers, the
seat of the High Commissioner (Prince George) and the
center of all political and diplomatic life. This was also the
family house of Eleftherios Venizelos!
