“I travelled” to Jupiter
«ΤΑΞΊΔΕΨΑ» ΜΕΧΡΊ ΤΟΝ ΔΊΑ
Ήταν η πρώτη φορά που πήγαινα στο συγκεκριμένο
μουσείο και -αν και είχα ενημερωθεί από το site του- και
είχα μεγάλη περιέργεια. Βλέποντας απ’ έξω το επιβλητικό
κτήριο των 1.000 τ.μ. στη Νέα Κηφισιά, κατάλαβα ότι
θα περάσω αρκετό χρόνο εδώ για να θαυμάσω τα εκθέ-
ματά του. Στην είσοδο, δεκάδες γονείς με τα παιδιά τους
περίμεναν για να ξεκινήσει το εκπαιδευτικό πρόγραμμα
που για αυτή την ημέρα ήταν το «Virtual & Augmented
Reality Museum Labs 1», δηλαδή δράσεις που αφο-
ρούσαν στην εικονική πραγματικότητα. Λίγα λεπτά μετά,
ανεβήκαμε στον 1ο όροφο, όπου εκεί κλέβει τα βλέμμα-
τα η κεντρική του τοιχογραφία, με τα άπειρα τηλέφωνα
που συνθέτουν το παζλ του εφευρέτη του πρώτου τηλε-
φώνου, Αλεξάντερ Γκράχαμ Μπελ. «Σήμερα, τα παιδιά
θα ακούσουν νέες λέξεις και νέες εμπειρίες», είπε ο κ.
Εμμανουήλ Τσουπάκης, υπεύθυνος της ξενάγησης στο
θερμό του καλωσόρισμα. Και κάπως έτσι ήταν! Αυτό
όμως που έγινε... ήταν κάτι μαγικό και ανεπανάληπτο!
Οι γονείς συνέχισαν την ξενάγησή τους και οι μικροί
ανέβηκαν στον 2ο όροφο με τις εφαρμογές εικονικής
και επαυξημένης πραγματικότητας να τους περιμένουν
για να τους μεταφέρουν σε ένα φανταστικό ταξίδι! Τα
παιδιά φόρεσαν τις VR μάσκες τους και «ταξίδεψαν»
στον διαστημικό σταθμό που βρίσκεται σε τροχιά γύρω
από τον πλανήτη Δία. Ταυτόχρονα, κάποια άλλα παιδιά
κολυμπούσαν στα καταγάλανα νερά, παρέα με δελφίνια.
Φυσικά, τα γέλια και τα επιφωνήματα δεν σταματούσαν,
αφού πραγματικά πίστεψαν ότι αυτό συνέβαινε στην
πραγματικότητα. Αργότερα, φόρεσαν ξανά τις VR μά-
σκες τους και προσπάθησαν να ζωγραφίσουν έναν δικό
τους κόσμο... Τέλος, μέσω ενός photobooth, τα παιδιά
φωτογραφήθηκαν με φόντο τις τεράστιες κεραίες στο
Κέντρο Δορυφορικών Επικοινωνιών στις Θερμοπύλες.
Αν και η δράση αυτή αφορούσε κυρίως τα παιδιά, είπα
να γίνω κι εγώ λίγο «παιδί» και να ταξιδέψω με τη VR μά-
σκα μου και με το... στόμα ανοιχτό μέχρι τον Δία!
This was my first visit to the
specific museum and, I was very
intrigued about what I would see
upon my visit. Standing outside
the imposing building of 1,000
sm. in Nea Kifissia, I realized that I
would spent a significant amount
of time admiring its exhibits. At
the entrance, tens of families
were waiting to join the daily ed-
ucational program, the “Virtual
Augmented Reality Museum Labs
1”, a set of activities based on
virtual reality.
A few minutes later, we went up
to the 1st floor, where we were
able to admire the captivating
figure of Alexander Graham Bell,
inventor of the first practical
telephone, posing in the centre
of the room in a puzzle-like mural
that consisted of many telephone
devices. “Today, kids will have
the chance to listen to new words
and experiences”, said Mr. Em-
manouil Tsoupakis, the Museum
docent, in his warm welcome
speech. And so it happened!
However, none of the kids or
their parents who were listening
to this introduction with great fo-
cus could imagine the things that
would follow! For what came
next was something magical and
remarkable; as parents continued
their tour, kids were taken up to
the 2nd floor were virtual and
augmented reality applications
were waiting to take them on
an amazing journey! The kids
put on their sets of VR masks;
some“travelled” in the space
station orbiting planet Jupiter,
while others swam in clear blue
waters accompanied by dolphins.
Laughs and cheers filled the
room, as the kids truly believed,
that the images they were seeing
were actually real.Later on, the
kids used tablets to discover inter-
esting and useful information for
selected Museum exhibits, and
tried to paint their own, unique
world through virtual reality with
the help of their VR masks. The
finale of the activity included a
photo-booth and in which the
kids took photos of themselves in
front of the gigantic antennas of
ΟΤΕ’s Satellite Communications
Centre in Thermopylae. And,
despite the fact that this activity
was mainly addressed to children,
I decided to let myself become
a “kid” for a moment and travel
with my VR mask to Jupiter - a
jaw-dropping experience!
