Reed described the unit as a small battery that is implanted in the lower right side of the back and four thin plastic covered wires that are passed up the back , under the skin to the head . Two ends of the wires are at the back of the head and the other two are in the front , just above the eyebrows .
As soon as the stimulator is turned on , patients feel a mild tingling sensation in the front and back of their head . “ By certain mechanism , when they feel that , it very commonly stops or dramatically improves their headaches ,” says Reed .
Subsequently after meeting with Dr . Reed and going through the trial period , Michael decided to have the
Reed Procedure done to treat his migraines .
Once the stimulator was in place , Michael no longer took oral medication for pain relief . Every now
and again when the occasional cold would occur , he takes an Advil or Tylenol Sinus to kick start his pain management , but then the stimulator would take over .
“ After the stimulator was put in ,” says Michael , “ I could see a dramatic change and that ’ s when I knew this was going to work .”
Michael believes the Reed Procedure is life changing , and he encourages other migraine suffers to consider it as an option for their solution to relief . “ I would drop dead to save that man ,” says Michael , “ because he saved my life .”
The average migraine sufferer misses two days of work per year .
