Growing up here in America I never knew Saint Patrick's Day is actually is a religious and cultural celebration. Saint Patrick’s Day is really about the arrival of Christianity in Ireland and is the date of a patron saint of Ireland, Saint Patrick (c.385-461. How many Americans actually knew this I didn't nobody never told me or shared this with me. Until I got this assignment and I asked my boyfriend Gary Christopher Whyte my love who happens to be living in Ireland at this moment. My love Gary Christopher Whyte said the holiday is religious and I thought to myself wow! Here is what I know of Saint Patrick’s Day; Saint Patrick’s Day is an annual holiday celebrated on March 17, it is actually a holiday in the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Newfoundland and Labrador and Montserrat. Saint Patrick’s Day is celebrated by many Irish especially in Great Britain, Canada, The United States, Argentina, Australia, and New Zealand. As an American child all I knew of Saint Paddys day was to wear green that day so you won't be pinched. I laugh at the thought of as a small child fear of being pinched but, I be sure to wear something green so others can see. As s adult I never really thought of the holiday only to make sure my daughter wears green to school she has the same fear of being pinched. As an adult I think of shamrocks, luck, and kiss me I'm Irish sweatshirts and tee shirts. I also associate and think of green beer and folks getting drunk and out of hand. Who would of thought in America what this holiday means? Sad to say many Americans don't so we must all learn to take the time to learn different cultures and holidays.
