What should be included in the
video theme and content?
The perspective and content of the video should
solely be the work of the team and should illustrate
team learning of the topic. However, some of the
following questions might help focus your team and
widen the scope for consideration;
> What exactly happened in 1916? Who was
involved? Were they workers? What did they work
at? What was their life like before the events of
1916?
> What was the role of the trade union movement
leading up to/ during Easter Week of 1916?
> What bearing, if any, did the events of 1913 have
on the rising of 1916?
> Who wrote the Proclamation and why? What do
you think they hoped to achieve by it? What are
the main principles of the proclamation? Are
students, young people, workers included? Why is
it important? Are those principles still relevant to
the modern world? Have they been realised?
> What were the effects (short & long-term) of the
events on children, workers, Irish people, society
and life generally?
> Did 1916 achieve anything for workers, working
conditions and trade unions? If so, what?
> What do the events of 1916 mean to young
people today?
> What are the links between the events of the
lockout of 1913, the rising of 1916 and the decent
work agenda today?

This competition is a great way for students to
explore in greater detail work relevant topics and
express their own unique understanding and
perception of the issue. It will help students to
identify what is important about what they have
learned, find a way to express that creatively within a
group, work collaboratively and develop skills to
create a video, which is educational and entertaining.
Students also get to experience scripting, shooting,
designing graphics/animation, video editing plus lots
of other cool creative stuff.

POLITICS....IN OR OUT???
WHATS IN IT FOR WORKERS:
This year in line with the new Politics module being
launched in Secondary Schools, Youth Connect will be
facilitating workshops for schools providing the
