JUNIOR BellTIME FILM FLEADH The Junior Film Fleadh is an innovative and exciting festival for young people of all ages taking place from 8th – 11th November in venues across Galway. Now in its 23rd year, it offers young people attending primary and secondary school a platform to become involved in cinema though screenings (features and shorts), workshops, competitions, and an outreach programme. Our Future Filmmakers Shorts Showcases places the work of young filmmakers at the centre of the programme offering a platform for new talent to screen their work in front of an audience of their peers. Younger audiences are offered an introduction to non-mainstream films in French, German, Spanish and Irish language (with English subtitles). The selected films feature young characters with the subject matter having a specific resonance with young people. Additionally, these films (screened in association with the IFI) support the language curriculum and further classroom discussion is encouraged with the provision of study guides. 2017’s titles include Ma Vie de Courgette (Senior French age 15+) a vividly realised animated tale with its finger-on-the-pulse look at the growing pains of youngsters. Also, screening is Fanny’s Journey (Junior French – age 12+) an incredible story of one girl’s bravery and courage set in WW2 occupied France. Additionally, the Junior Film Fleadh will screen feature films in Spanish (RaRa all levels) and German including Tschick suitable for TY/Senior Cycle German and At Eye Level (Outreach Programme) suitable for Junior Cycle German. These films will be supported by targeted introductions and study guides. Furthermore, In partnership with Foras na Gaeilge, the Gearrscannain programme offers a selection of Irish language shorts targeted at young people aged 13 -17 years. The JFF outreach programme brings language- focused, cinema-based workshops to your classroom. Running between October and November outside of our main event, these workshops are designed to help in gaining a practical grasp of a language (Irish + German). Alongside the screenings a diverse programme of workshops is offered. Led by industry professionals these workshops provide young people with hands on experience in different areas of films. The annual Script Pitching Competition (in partnership with SpunOut and Galway Film Centre) attracts entries from schools and individuals all over Ireland and emphasizes the importance of good writing in all forms of screen entertainment. Application closing date is 20th October. For further information and booking contact the festival office [email protected] / 091 562 200 41
