NEW TECHNOLOGY VIDEOS EMPOWER PARENTS With advances in the world of technology arriving at a dizzying pace, parents and mechanchim are being faced with an array of new challenges. The Yeshiva recently introduced a new project, “The Apples of Our Eyes,” to empower the parent body with awareness, inspiration, and practical guidance in the responsible use of technology—by both parents and children. Comprised of a series of engaging videos, the project has to date featured our Rosh HaYeshiva, Rav Yaakov Bender; Rav Yisroel Reisman, Rosh Yeshiva at Torah Vodaath; Rav Elya Brudny, Rosh Yeshiva at the Mirrer Yeshiva; and Dr. David Pelcovitz of the Azrieli School at Yeshiva University. The library of videos can be accessed at darchei.org/apples or by emailing [email protected]. RAV SHMUEL KRASNER K"MZ 'v Is for Hatzoloh When the kindergarten talmidim of the Harriet Keilson Early Childhood Center began to learn about the letter “Hay” in the Alef-Beis, they were treated to a special visit: A real Hatzoloh ambulance, parked right in front of the Yeshiva, along with volunteer members of Hatzoloh who patiently gave each group of children a brief tour of the inside of the vehicle, providing the boys with an educational and memorable experience. THE ART AND THE SCIENCE The fifth grade students of Ms. Esther Friedman collaborated to turn their extensive research on biomes (large, naturally occurring communities of flora and fauna occupying major habitats) into giant works of art. The boys created full-color murals on the tundra, temperate, marine, and desert biomes that were displayed in their hallway for all to see and enjoy. The Yeshiva recently lost a beloved member of the Limudei Kodesh faculty, Rav Shmuel Krasner zt”l, who was also the rav of the Suburban Park Jewish Center in East Meadow, NY. A brilliant talmid chacham who was familiar with all of Shas, he devoted his life to learning and teaching Torah and improving the lives of others. He lived very simply and dealt with numerous personal challenges, yet he possessed a palpable simchas hachaim in every situation. His home in East Meadow was open to all who needed a warm meal or a listening ear. His legacy is perpetuated by his illustrious children, David and Daniel (both Yeshiva alumni) and Rachel and Chana. lurc urfz hvh BEDARCHEI HATORAH WINTER 5780/2020 15
