The B&B Association has long been campaigning for simpler, more sensible, more co-ordinated and less expensive music licensing for small B&Bs. The good news is that these two bodies are now starting to adopt “discretionary waiver” policies to benefit small B&Bs (with three or fewer guest bedrooms). Most owners are still surprised that if you allow your guests to play music even on a TV or a radio - in their bedrooms, you need not only a TV license but also licenses from two other bodies PRS for music (on behalf of composers and music publishers), and PPL (for record companies and performers). We have made submissions to PPL during a recent formal consultation, and hope to hear soon whether they will adopt a waiver and align with PRS.
