According to an Airbnb-sponsored analysis
of its data by think-tank IPPR, the number
of active London listings is expected to rise
85 per cent this year compared with 2015.
Earlier this year, Westminster City Council,
which covers a large part of central London,
said it was investigating 1,200 properties
accused of breaking the 90-night rule but
that it was “a real challenge for us to gather
the necessary evidence”.
The council “cautiously welcomed”
Airbnb’s move, but said the service could
still adversely affect London residents
in other ways - noting that some Airbnb
visitors engaged in “antisocial behaviour”
resulting in “a large number of noise
complaints”.
