HELP OUT THE
Aside from how animals are treated and how it affects people, there is also an environmental factor.
ENVIR NMENT!
Vegetarians today help out the environment not just by avoiding meats but in many other ways. The amount of effort it takes to clear a rainforest to produce beef for one hamburger is 75 kilograms of CO2, when a car only gives off 3 kilograms for a day of driving. Furthermore, the “Slash and Burn” policy clears most of the South American rainforests to make space for cattle to graze on, an also an easier way to produce cheap beef. The “Slash and Burn” policy is when farmers cut down forests or woodlands and burn the rest of the left over vegetation. The result is cleared land and land that is rich in nutrients, that help fertilize crops and provide a good size plot of land for animals to graze upon.
Roughly 25% of the land on earth is used for domestic livestock grazing. This process will only make the land fertile enough for a few years until the nutrients are used up. Once the land is used for its nutrients, farmers abondon the land and repeat the process over on a new plot of land. All of the deforestation has taken up two-thirds of Central Americas rainforests. Rainforests are necessary in the world to regulate global climate and remove a majority of CO2 in the atmosphere.
