school group I have seen ,” Murillo said . “ They have made me kinder and more considerate and the incredible Bailey ’ s and my cast members have pushed me to be the best I can be .”
The Bailey ’ s have worked together for 5 years , each season creating shows with unique groups of students .
“ I want all of my students to know that there will always be someone who loves them , who believes in them and who is proud of them ,” Vanessa said . “ Always .”
At the beginning of 2020 , the group ’ s season ended early due to the rise of Covid-19 . When the group returned to school in 2021 , a new tradition began ,
“ Coming back to technically a new world was challenging , and we wanted something to help us navigate ,” Vanessa said . “ After being separated for at least 6 months during quarantine , we wanted something to unite us , and that was ‘ Believe .’”
The bible verse , Mark 9:23 “ All things are possible to the one who believes ,” and the television show “ Ted Lasso ,” were the inspiration for the slogan .
“ It all started when we were doing table work , which can be very hard ,” Kevin said . “ Before we even set foot on stage , we go through the script and analyze it from every possible angle .”
During this process the troupe looks at why the playwright uses certain punctuation , their word choice , and themes of each individual scene .
“ This is when we need to remind ourselves what it is all about ,” Kevin said . “ So , we hung a sign that said “ believe ” on the door and everyone hit it when they walked by .”
Each day , the students were told to look at the sign on their way out of practice , and remember why they were there .
During their season , each member of the troupe keeps a journal that holds all of their notes from rehearsals clinics , friends in the cast , and much more . Here , sophomore , Joslynn Pope , writes ten things she can control and wants to accomplish at the state meet .
The group gets together for a pose in front of the charter bus they rented in celebration of their advancement to state . Here , they are all pictured wearing their “ Believe ” shirts .
