What it means to
A piece of yellow paper clings to a wall , ripped apart so many times , tape practically covers its entirety . The word “ BELIEVE ” is scribbled on the page in blue ink . Everyday BHS One-Act Play students passionately smack their hands onto its weathered surface . The ritual is performed so often , the students do it as if it ’ s engraved in their bones , making sure to hit the page before and after every single practice . However , the page itself is not what is so valuable to them , it is the word “ BELIEVE ” and how it led the company down the path to victory .
After competing at four levels of UIL One-Act Play ( OAP ) competitions this spring , Brownsboro secured their spot in the 36 top eight schools in Texas by advancing to the 4A State Meet . At the meet , the troupe received a fourth place rating , with their show “ Ghetto ” by Joshua Sobol .
“ Watching our show on the state stage- the biggest stage for Texas High School Theatre , was truly a dream come true ” theatre director , Vanessa Bailey , said . “ It was incredible !”
The state competition was held at the Round Rock Performing Arts Center near Austin , Texas . Many of the groups family and friends traveled to watch their performance , along with several of the school ’ s administrators .
“ When students compete at the highest level in the state , it is a testament to all of the hours that the students and teach-
