Swimming Carnival
Zubin Amar, Year 6
On Friday, May 30, Beacon Academy held their first ever Swimming Festival complete with games and races
Students sat by the edge of the pool in their Houses, eager to hop in; and the games began! One of the thrilling games
was the classic egg-on-a-spoon race; but, this time, in water! A few more games were played with the students cheering
on their House and then, the racers got ready for the chance to make their Houses proud.
One Fire House student, Shenaz Nanwani, laughed: "I've signed up for everything. I think I'm gonna pass out!"
Students sat, tense in their seats, as the races took place. They were sorted by age group and gender. Students swam
amazingly with swift strokes, pulling themselves through the water. They did breaststroke and backstroke, freestyle and
the butterfly stroke and then, they did the medley!
The medley is an extremely hard combination of all the strokes that were done in the competition. Also, a relay took place
after that, with students of all ages working together for their Houses. In the end, when everyone thought it was over, it
was announced that students from Ms Megan's Swimming Squad and the teachers would be competing.
Students chanted, supporting their teachers and friends. In the end, it was Ms Megan and Connor Moore, Year 8 student,
neck and neck, with Connor winning. The students went wild and proceeded upstairs to the Middle School commons to
hear who the winner was. As students sat in their Houses, all ears, Mr John announced what they were all waiting to
hear: who won.
Earth won! So, all in all, the Swimming Festival was an amazing experience for Beacon Academy.
