English with Ms Katie!
Gabrielle Hadipraja, Year 7
Ms Maggie invited Ms Katie to share with them traditional
myths and legends during their English lessons. Myths and
Legends have something symbolic that happened in the
past, directing a person’s actions or values and explaining
why something is the way it is. They had to take notes in a
different way. The paper students wrote on was shaped like
pyramid. On each side, there would be notes on mythology
and examples of them. The story that Ms Katie read was the
ancient Greek myth of the four seasons.
The story is basically about the relationship between
Demeter, a goddess, and her daughter Persephone. Hades,
the God of the Underworld, kidnapped Persephone. Then
Demeter found out and mourned for her for many months.
This led to humans suffering; so Zeus the ruler of Gods
demanded that Demeter bring the weather back to normal,
although they had to make a deal to get Persephone back
from Hades. Unfortunately, Persephone ate pomegranate the food of the Underworld. This resulted in Persephone
staying in the Underworld for six months and the other six
months with her mother.
Carissa Averina, Year 6, said, “It clearly relates to the IMYC
topic which is Tradition.”
