Don’t Play Bad, Play Badminton
Beacon Bee
Zubin Amar, Year 6
Beacon Academy’s Inter-House Badminton racketed everyone
away, with amazing scores, players and so much more! It began
with the students crowding around the walls trying to get a
glimpse of the players.
At precisely 8:15 AM, Mr. John announced the start of what
would turn out to be an amazing play-off. “I feel awesome and I
have confidence that Earth will win,” said sports fan Abigail J.
Sandoval.
The action-packed games began, each grade in a different area.
Players struck hard, desperate to win. As Mr. John shouted out
into the crowd: “Who do you think will win?” Every student yelled
out his or her house with faith. The crowd goes wild as Rohit (Air)
and Yash (Earth) entered the gym for the Middle School. It was
very hard to predict who would win from the two amazing players
but in the end, Rohit won!
Next up was Marc (Water) and Shenaz (Fire) and they faced off
as the other competitors practised behind-the-scenes. Fire
started off with winning but Water rapidly caught up. It went
from, Shenaz=8pts and Marc=11pts, to Shenaz= 15pts and
Marc=14pts! It surprised everyone as Shenaz started with 1pt
and Marc with 7pts!
On Friday, the 17th of February 2014,
Beacon Academy held its spelling bee
tournament in the senior library.
Parents, Students and Teachers piled in
to the senior library to watch the
upcoming event. When everyone was
settled the rules were explained and
there were special shout outs to the
spelling be committee, the judges and
students participating. Exciting rounds
from all the years went by and seven
people left the competition victorious.
One victor was from fire, two from
Water, two from Air and another two
from Earth. One student said “the
Spelling bee was awesome and it was
great how everyone tried their bests”.
We would like to congratulate the
overall
national
winners:
Aditya
Kelvakar from year 5 and Krish Mahtani
from year 3. Both incredibly won first
place.
Next was Michelle (Fire) and Karisha (Water). “I feel that Michelle
is a very good player, I am confident she will win,” said Fire
House Captain, Melfinna Tjugito. To predict who would win was
impossible, but in the end, as Melfinna predicted, Michelle won!
When Owen (from Earth) and Jayesh (from Air) strutted out into
to the stadium, Pallavi B. and Angelique pulled out a sign that
read ‘Earth Is Dynamite!’
“I wanted to give confidence to my fellow Earthians” said
Angelique Sutanto, former school captain. The shuttlecock flew
high between them but, as if Angie had predicted it, Earth won!
After that, the finals were played. First, it was Michelle versus
Rohit. Both players were amazingly talented but Rohit claimed
the title of ‘the Year 7-8 Badminton Champion’. After that, it was
Owen versus Shenaz. Both were also supremely talented but
Angie’s wish came true, Owen won! And Earth Dominated!
The Inter-House Badminton turned out to be a good treat for the
whole school!
