25 BE INSPRED, JANUARY 2014 11 NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS THAT TRANSFORM TO ‘A NEW YOU!’ When you say it’s a New Year, what do you actually do that makes a new you? Do you do something that will contribute in changing your lives? Do you do something that will make you a- ‘New You?’ Well, there are lots of people who plan and try some endeavors, for example- quit smoking, losing weight, exercising daily, earning more money, etc. to change their lives in the New Year. But the question is- how many of them get succeed in their New Year’s resolutions? Or do these resolutions really work? A research of Dr. John Norcross from the University of Scranton, Pennsylvania found that the people who made resolutions in other time instead of the eve of a New Year got 51% success in the first 1-2 weeks and only 4% in the next 6 months. On the flip side, the people who made their resolutions or action plan at the eve of a New Year got 71% success in the first 1-2 weeks. Interestingly, in the next 6 months the success rate was 46%! The people who took initiatives to change their behaviors at the beginning of the year were 10 times more successful than people who made it other time. So, from the results of the study, we can assume that a New Year is the best time to take initiatives to change our behaviors for our lives.
