Doris Sellers, principal of A.C. Reynolds High
School and 2017 Buncombe County Schools (BCS)
Principal of the Year, has gone on to earn the
distinction of being named the North Carolina
Western Region Principal of the Year.
“This certainly is an honor for me,” says Mrs.
Sellers. “I look forward to representing A.C.
Reynolds High School, Buncombe County Schools,
and our region at the state level to show the
strength of public education. I proudly say that I
am a product of Buncombe County Schools, and I
have enjoyed a 28-year career as a math teacher
and administrator in BCS. I will continue to
advocate for our students to have the opportunity
to excel in academics, athletics, and the arts
through the programs offered in our schools.”
As the Western Region Principal of the Year, Mrs.
Sellers will have opportunities to speak to groups
around the state as a representative of both her
profession and our district. The Principal of the
Year competition is sponsored by Wells Fargo. As
the regional winner, Mrs. Sellers will receive a
monetary award for both herself and her school.
Sellers is one of 8 regional winners across the
state who will compete for North Carolina
Principal of the Year. The decision will be
based on portfolios and interviews with all the
candidates conducted in March. The state winner
will be announced in late spring.

was surprised with the news she’s been named Regional
Principal of the year.
“What an outstanding honor for Mrs. Sellers and
A.C. Reynolds High School,” says Superintendent
Dr. Tony Baldwin. “Her selection as Regional
Principal of the Year is extremely well-deserved.
She will be an excellent representative of our
school system as she continues on in the Principal
of the Year process.”
