BUNCOMBE COUNTY MIDDLE COLLEGE AND COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL

Our school system strives to offer education options for all of our students ; we offer many different pathways to graduation . Two successful programs are Buncombe County Middle College and Community High School .
BUNCOMBE COUNTY MIDDLE COLLEGE
Buncombe County Middle College ( BCMC ) is located on A-B Tech ’ s main campus . BCMC serves high school juniors and seniors from across BCS . These are capable students who find that a traditional comprehensive high school does not meet their needs .
Students are held to high academic and social standards . In return , students are given the support needed to achieve their goals in an empowering academic setting . Students attend Middle College from Noon until 4:30pm . This allows them to enroll in morning classes at A-B Tech ( tuition free ) and begin a college or vocational career .
We offer small class size with our average class consisting of 15-20 students . This allows for greater student / teacher interaction and builds positive relationships . Our teachers also offer time before class for tutoring or academic support for college classes . We welcome all students who want to get a jump start on their future while completing their high school requirements in small class settings .
COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL
Community High School ( CHS ) is a public , alternative high school of approximately 200 students . CHS students are committed to developing their academic knowledge base , learning new work / life skills , and graduating from high school . It is believed that with a smaller classroom size and supportive learning environment , students can effectively re-engage in the educational process . We work diligently to remove barriers and to help students recognize areas of success , despite life ’ s challenges .
We believe that students learn best when they are actively engaged in a variety of learning activities to solve problems and to produce quality work .
We believe that a student ’ s self-esteem is enhanced by positive relationships and by mutual respect among and between students , staff , and the community .
We believe that the commitment to continuous improvement is imperative in order to enable students to become confident , self-directed , lifelong learners .
