LAST WEEK'S WRAP UP
QBL LADY CAPITALS
WESLEY HOSPITAL LADY
CAPITALS VS MACKAY
by Steph Alekna
Assistant Coach
After the an early morning
flight we arrived in Mackay
ready for a very tough double
header weekend. Mackay were
one of the top teams of the
competition and after a couple
of big wins in recent weeks we
were keen to keep our winning
streak alive. The game started
of with both teams trading bas-
kets early, we were able to push
the ball in transition and Mackay
were executing well in the half
court. Late in the first Mackay
were able to get some back to
back stops and push out to an
8 point lead. Lucky for us team
captain Amy Lewis got us going
and reduced the lead to 2 points
by the end of the first. The 2nd
and 3rd quarter were much the
same as the first. Mackay were
unable to contain our transi-
tion offence but we couldn't
seem stop Mackays half court
sets. No team was able to get
the upper hand. Heading in to
the last quarter Mackay had a
5 point lead. Our zone defence
lifted in intensity in the 4th quar-
ter and Mackay where unable
to execute. Some back to back
baskets from Heidi Freeburn
levelled the scores once again
with only a few minutes to go in
the last. A massive 3 point play
from Madie Woodford with 3
minutes remaining gave us the
lead yet again and lifted the in-
tensity of the team. Both team
continued to make big plays
down the stretch. With 4 sec-
onds left in the game we had a
1 point lead but it was Mackays
ball from the side. Victoria Al-
dred read the play perfectly and
was able to get a steal and se-
cure the win for the Caps.
WESLEY HOSPITAL LADY
CAPITALS VS ROCKHAMPTON
After a massive effort the night
before the team was a bit sore
and stiff on Saturday morning
and not looking forward to the 4
hour bus trip to Rockhampton.
Not long after arriving in Rock-
hampton it was game time and
the team had to get themselves
ready to play. The start of the
game was hampered by ongo-
ing score board issues which
eventually ended up in the game
being moved to another court.
The game eventually got going
again and both teams struggled
to find any rhythm. The game
was very similar to the night
before with both teams trading
baskets for the majority of the
game. Unfortunately in the 4th
quarter the effects of the game
the night before started to show
and we were unable to play with
the same intensity. Rockhamp-
ton were able to hit some mas-
sive baskets which gave them
the momentum heading into
the last few minutes. The Caps
continued to fight and with 10
seconds left were 3 points down
with possession. We were able
to perfectly execute our sideline
play to get an open 3 point shot
for sharp shooter Heidi Free-
burn but unfortunately it was
just short and Rockhampton
were able to close out the game
and get the win..
QBL MEN

METEORS & ROCKHAMPTON
ROCKETS
by Geoff Tarrant Head Coach
The Caps left the confines of
the southeast corner for their
annual northern road double
on Friday morning with games
against red hot title favourites
and ladder leaders the Mackay
Meteors that night and a resur-
gent Rockhampton Rockets on
Saturday night. After our win-
ning road double the previous
weekend we were feeling very
confident with our only concern
being an injury to star import
