SBL WOMEN VS
CABOOLTURE SUNS
by Georgia McCarron
The SBL ladies came away
with a convincing win on the
weekend, defeating the Ca-
boolture Suns 104-50. Team
work and strong defensive ef-
forts at the start of the game
led the Capitals to a lead from
the tip off. Tyra-Lee Link and
Jorden Worthington-Ford top
scored for the Suns with 15 and
12. The SBL ladies scoring was
spread evenly across the team,
with Adelaide Fuller and Holly
Christensen top scoring with 16
each. At training this week there
was a main focus on the up-
coming Spartans game, where
a win should secure the girls a
top 4 finish. The ladies face the
Brisbane Spartans at NAB 2pm
Saturday..
SBL MEN VS
CABOOLTURE SUNS
by Kelvin Anderson
Assistant Coach
Round 13 saw The SBL Men's
Caps team head north up the
M1 to play the Caboolture Suns.
A cold night and a hostile
home crowd were just some of
LAST WEEK'S WRAP UP
the challenges the Caps SBL
Men's team encountered in a
thrilling away game at the Mo-
rayfield Sports Centre.
In the first quarter the team
was out of rhythm at both ends
of the floor and no matter how
hard we tried we just couldn’t
get going. Caps down 24 – 12
at quarter time.
The team started the sec-
ond quarter determined to lift
their defensive intensity but an
equally determined Caboolture
team matched each surge. We
were able to reduce the deficit
to 8pts going into the half time
break.
In the third quarter the team
came out ‘guns a blazing’ as
we scored the first 9pts in the
quarter, Caps up by 1pt. For the
remainder of the quarter both
teams traded baskets with nei-
ther team being able to break
away. Third quarter time score
50 Suns – 49 Caps
The last quarter was a mirror
of the third with the Caps get-
ting an early lead only to see the
Suns pull it back. With 2mins
left in the game the Caps lead
by 7pts. A time out by the Suns
stopped our momentum and
the lead was reduced to just 2
points with only 24secs left in
the game.
With 4 team fouls and des-
perately needing possession
the Suns fouled sending Matt
Booysen to the line. The paro-
chial crowd tried their best to
put Matt off but they didn’t suc-
ceed. Score Caps 70 Suns 66.
The Suns called a time out
to advance the ball but intense
defensive pressure resulted in
a Suns turnover. Another foul
saw Rile y Martin at the free
throw line and again the home
crowd tried their best to dis-
tract him, Riley sunk both free
throws. Caps up by 6pts with
8secs left in game.
Final score Caps 72 d Suns
66.
A great team effort to turn a
12pt first quarter deficit into a
6pt win.
Riley Martin was outstanding
with 35pts (game high) with,
Lachlan Venus (13pts) Matt
Booysen (11pts) Josh Leaney
(9pts) making solid contribu-
tions.
Kiernan Kyle (Suns) with 21pts
