LAST WEEK'S WRAP UP
he went on a mini tear where he
hit three consecutive threes to
keep Ipswich in the game and
which saw the Caps lead by the
barest of margins 24-23 at the
first break. The Caps offence was
working well but we were having
trouble containing the penetration
of Josh Derksen and Kyle Har-
vey which was causing us major
headaches. The second quarter
saw the Caps defence shut James
Legan out of the game but Kyle
Harvey continued to hurt us al-
though we were gradually getting
on top of our opposition going
to the main break with a handy 6
point lead 51-45. Imports Harvey
14 points and Legan 11 points
did the majority of the damage
for the Force for the half while for
the caps Princeton Onwas was
outstanding with 19 points and
he was well supported by Aaron
Anderson 10 points and Anthony
Kopcikas with 8 points.
The Caps started the third pe-
riod poorly with Ipswich erasing
the deficit and then taking a two
point lead early in the quarter be-
fore the Caps snapped into gear
and quickly re-established their
superiority going to the last break
with an 11 point lead 74-63. The
Caps continued their dominance
in the last quarter getting out to
a 25 point lead late in the quar-
ter before James Legan again
went on a mini tear hitting anoth-
er three triples which saw Ipswich
get the margin back to 22 points
at the final whistle 110-88.
The Caps offensive mojo re-
turned this week after two fair-
ly ordinary weeks with the team
shooting 40 of 80 at 50% and
throwing a team record 34 as-
sists. Our defence continues to be
strong holding the potent Ipswich
offence to 88 points which was
well below their season average.
For the Caps Princeton Onwas
was outstanding with 31 points at
50%, 11 rebounds and 7 assists.
He was well supported by Aaron
Anderson 22 points at 69% and
8 assists, Zac Carter 22 points at
57% and Dusty Rychart 8 points,
15 rebounds and 7 assists. An-
thony Kopcikas returned to his
best form and Christian Lam put
in the best performance of his ca-
reer thus far. Ipswich were best
served by their imports Kyle Har-
vey and James Legan.
The Caps head into a very tough
stretch with double headers in
each of the next three weeks and
five of those games being on the
road. We kick off with a home
game on Saturday night against
Townsville which should be an
absolute cracker followed by a
short trip down the M1 on Sunday
to take on the Southwest Pirates
at the Hibiscus Centre at 2.00pm.
The boys as usual appreciate the
support of our loyal fans and hope
to see you all for both of these im-
portant games this weekend.
