LAST WEEK ' S WRAP UP ford again played her own style of tough defence which always makes the opposition looking for a rest . Taylor came to play and showed the team what she is capable of with hustling defence and organising the offence .
The Gladstone bigs stepped up and between the three of them they scored 80 % of their team score . Though it was their bench that made the difference contributing in offence and defence which won them the game .
Both teams at various stages of the game were 15 points up with the result decided in the last 10th of a sec of the game . Sadly , for us in Gladstone favour . The last tenth of a second did not cost us the game , a quick look at the video and game stats showed we had very poor second and third quarters and lack of contribution from the bench . The performance has been discussed and the team is still united and strong in their belief . The Team true to its character directed no blame for the loss on anyone but themselves .
Lots of good things occurred over the weekend which balances out the poor result . The Wesley Hospital Lady Caps enjoyed turning out supporting the junior teams on Saturday morning , lots of smiling faces all round . Then at half time of the Lady Caps game BBI celebrated the U12 Junior Gold Lady Caps who were recognised for their fantastic season of 26 wins and 1 loss winning both gold medals in the State Championships and BQJBC competitions . In the future , you can expect these young talented players playing for the Wesley Hospital
Lady Capitals in a number of years .
This Saturday we face Sunshine Coast Phoenix at 6 pm at NAB Stadium , we can promise you the team will step up and the more noise the better
QBL MEN
HUDOR MEN V GLADSTONE POWER
by Geoff Tarrant Head Coach
Last Sunday afternoon the unbeaten Caps QBL men ’ s team took on the Gladstone Port City Power who were backing up from their 20 point loss the previous night to the Spartans at Carina .
The Caps took control of the game from the outset with both Dusty Rychart and skipper Zac Carter leading the way in a dominant first quarter which saw them ahead 29-18 at the first break . After a slowish start to the second quarter the Caps put the foot down in the latter stages of the half to go to the main break with a commanding 58- 33 lead . Gladstone imports Willie Shackleford 16 points and Ray Willis 10 points were fighting a virtual lone hand with little support coming from their teammates .
Brisbane ’ s woeful third quarter starts continued with the Caps managing just the solitary point in the first 4 minutes of the quarter before finally getting on a roll on to finish the quarter leading 79-48 . With import Ray Willis ejected and starting point guard Remy Lawyer fouled out the Power offered little resistance in the final quarter with Caps running out convincing 99-54 winners .
For the third consecutive game the Caps were smashed on the boards by 20 plus rebounds 67-42 giving up an abysmal 36 offensive rebounds to the Power . Fortunately our primary defence continues to dominate with the Power committing 25 turnovers and shooting just 21 of 79 at 26.6 %. If the Caps are to be a serious contender this year we cannot continue to allow our opposition so much extra possession off the glass and we must overcome our poor third quarter starts . Our very best is outstanding but we need to become more consistent and disciplined in every aspect of our play .
Although both were well held in the second half Willie Shackleford 18 points and 18 rebounds and Ray Willis 14 points toiled hard for the Power while both Dusty Rychart 22 points and 7 rebounds and Zac Carter 22 points and 6 rebounds were outstanding for the Caps . Aaron Anderson 15 points , Princeton Onwas 14 points and 6 rebounds and Jake Davis 13 points were all solid in a reasonably solid performance by the Caps .
We take on a full strength Sunny Coast Phoenix coming off their first win of the season last week against Logan in what should be an open and free flowing contest . Their line up which includes Bullets young guns Tom Fullarton and Matt Kenyon ( outstanding against Logan ), Sydney Kings big man Jeromie Hill , exciting import Breland Hogan and former two time SEABL MVP CJ Massingale should provide a solid test for the in form Caps line up . We hope to see our fans out in force again to cheer the boys on .
