SBL LADIES V
SOUTH WEST PIRATES
By Georgia McCarron
A terrific end to the season led
the SBL ladies into the Quarter
Final round against South West
Metro Pirates last weekend, after
getting off to an awesome start
they come away with a convinc-
ing 77-41 win. The girls fought
hard from the tip off, allowing
themselves to maintain momen-
tum throughout the game. The
Capital girls focused on defence
and aimed to keep Pirate’s scor-
ing to a minimum. Grace Cham-
pion, Jessie Cooke and Adelaide
Fuller top scored for the Capitals
while Maggie Pitt, Jada Schultz
and Sheryl-Ann Osbourne top
scored for Pirates. The SBL la-
dies gained confidence from
their performance on the week-
end and are looking forward to
the Semi-Final to battle it out for
a Grand Final position. The la-
dies face Northside Wizards at
Brendale, 5.00pm on Saturday,
would love to see you there for
support!
SBL QUARTER FINAL MEN
CAPS V USC RIP CITY
by Kelvin Anderson
Assistant Coach
It was a third v sixth match up,
LAST WEEK'S WRAP UP
but USC Rip is a better team
than their sixth placed finish in-
dicated
The first quarter was evenly
matched with both teams trad-
ing baskets. Quarter time score
Caps 18 USC Rip 20.
The second quarter was the
same as the first with neither
team being able to dominate.
Half time score Caps 34 USC
Rip 36.
In the third quarter USC Rip
started to dominate the offensive
boards and in the last eight min-
utes of the quarter went on an
18 to 6 point runs. Third quarter
time score Caps 49 USC Rip 59.
During the third quarter break
the team was confident that we
were still in the game and that we
could reduce the 10 point deficit.
Lack of defensive pressure
and failing to box-out allowed
USC Rip to score the first 8pts
of the last quarter. Trading bas-
kets wasn’t going to reduce the
deficit; the team needed defen-
sive stops and also needed our
offense to ‘heat’ up.
USC Rip’s lead was 17pts with
five minutes left in the game. The
Caps tried valiantly to reduce their
lead but were not able to do so.
The final score was Caps 58
USC Rip 75.
Jarrod Rasmussen 13pts, Tim
Soong 11 & Riley Martin 8pts
were the main scorers for the
Caps.
Sean Murphy 25pts & Felipo
Eliseo 18pts were the tops scor-
ers for USC Rip.
Whilst the result was disap-
pointing the coaching staffs were
very pleased with the team’s
progress over the season. It
was a young team with an av-
erage age of 21yrs and to finish
third was quite an achievement.
They will learn from this loss and
come back better and hungrier
next season.
