SHOW GARDENS
‘ The Lilian Prime MS Centre Garden ’ by Derby College level 3 horticulture students .
Designers : Darren Purdy and Sue Arthur Sponsors or Supporting Companies : Derby College , Lilian Prime Trust Harlows Timber and Marshalls
The Level 3 Horticulture students at Derby College have created a garden which celebrates and unveils the Derby branch of the MS Society ’ s transformation into The Lilian Prime MS Centre independent charity . The main work of the Trust is to provide support for all those affected by MS and similar neurological conditions , and the garden marks a new direction in which the charity wishes to travel . It also acknowledges the journey that people who live with MS take to finding peace and happiness .
Visitors to the garden will walk alongside a person living with MS , as represented by the figure sculpture in the centre of the design , to the new look “ open door ” centre provided by the charity . When travelling through the space , visitors will be surrounded by planting that gently flows around three key features of the garden .

These three features echo the shape and colour of the Lilian Prime MS Centre logo . The first feature to be seen on entering the garden will be a formal raised bed which represents strength and unity . The planting here is evergreen , and the use of topiarised yew suggests longevity and permanence . The second will be a soothing water feature depicting life and giving visitors a space to observe and reflect . The third feature is a simple bench which allows visitors to relax , breathe everything in and feel at ‘ home ’.
