Beautiful Borders
A Time for Peace
Designer: Rachael Deterville
Inspired by Mediterranean meadows, this border blends wild perennials and annuals like Orlaya grandiflora and Succisa pratensis, adding lightness and texture. Briza media grass introduces gentle movement, while two varieties of Iris germanica provide structural beauty. A tonal palette of cool blues creates a calming atmosphere, with a central water feature offering a reflective, tranquil focal point. The design encourages moments of stillness and connection with nature, evoking a sense of peace and serenity.
The Wonder Garden
Designer: Anthony Massie Company: The Gardening Geek
This sensory border encourages children to connect with nature through touch, smell, sight, and taste. Textured leaves invite touch, fragrant herbs soothe, and colourful flowers captivate. Edible plants can be safely picked, while rustling grasses and a water feature provide calming sounds. Natural paths, stepping stones, and planting pockets spark hands-on exploration. Each element is chosen to inspire curiosity and creativity, making gardening fun and accessible – a space where children can learn, explore, and fall in love with the outdoors.

The Milky Way – Thinking of The Moon and Stars
Designer: Wouter Leyssen Company: Ya-Massonia
This border bridges the night and day garden, using dark-leaved plants to evoke the alien feel of night during daylight. When green tones fade, the garden takes on an otherworldly appearance. White flowers mimic stars, while Pittosporum tenuifolium‘ Irene Patterson’ symbolises the moon. The gravel path represents the Milky Way, creating a dreamlike, celestial atmosphere that encourages visitors to see the garden through a new lens.
Bud & Blossom‘ Reflection’ Garden
Designer: Trinity Catholic School, History Research Group.
Trinity Catholic School’ s garden unites students and staff through gardening, faith, and community, commemorating 80 years since the liberation of Auschwitz and the end of World War II. The symmetrical design, marked by pebbles, symbolises reflection and unity, centring on a tranquil pool. Triangular planting areas represent unity and the Holy Trinity, while a Silver Birch Memorial Tree invites visitors to hang the names of loved ones. With plants chosen for their symbolic meaning, this multi-sensory sanctuary fosters healing, reflection, and hope for a brighter future.
