Calon Lan Five Senses Garden
Designer: Emma Yousef
Calon Lan blends my Welsh and Arab heritage through Islamic principles of stewardship, using geometric designs and Celtic art. This garden fosters peace and reflection with eco-friendly materials and plants suited to the British climate. A central eight-sided star fountain symbolises life’ s flow, its calming water inviting contemplation. Elevated plants attract pollinators, enhancing biodiversity while creating a serene, meditative atmosphere. Calon Lan is a welcoming space for all, encouraging connection with nature, reflection, and unity regardless of faith or background.
From Maiden to Mother
Designer: Donna Sutton Company: The Granary Garden
A border can be a place to express yourself, evoking memories and inspiration. This border symbolises my journey from maiden to mother and how the connections I’ ve cultivated along the way paved the path for me to pursue a career in horticulture when my priorities shifted upon becoming a mother. The annual flowers and plants represent my maiden phase, a time when life was fleeting and fast-paced. The border then transitions across a bridge, symbolising the shift to motherhood, and into perennial plants, representing the enduring phases of my life.
