My garden is designed for my autistic son , recognizing his struggle with new places . It ’ s easy to overlook the time he needs to overcome his anxiety . While neurotypical people process only a portion of their surroundings , Mathew takes in everything at once and becomes overwhelmed . This garden allows Mathew to explore nature from his ‘ safe space ,’ with plants for birds , bees , butterflies , and a small nature pond . All plants are non-toxic , tactile , and aromatic .
