we are saved because once or twice a day the fish get active enough to be caught. Sometimes they don’t move shallower; sometimes they do. When the Bass do move shallower they follow paths from the deep water sanctuary zone that we can find and follow. These paths are called “Structure”, “Breaks”, and “Breaklines”.

While there are many different variations of “Structure Situations”, they all fall into 17 basic categories.

An example would be “Ledges”. Spoonpluggers don’t call them “ledges” because more than 50 years ago Mr. Perry called this structure type “The Delta Situation” and for MANY reservoirs, it is the KEY to the entire body of water.

So when you as a fisherman from South Africa come to America to fish in your dream Reservoir, you too can be very successful without a guide if you do some research: account for water type; water colour; seasonal and daily migrations and weather. Then it’s just a matter of making sure you have the equipment you are comfortable using. For me, I know FedEx is very happy with my business this year…
