This month our Bassing Escapades found us on the famed “Dragon Lake" in KZN, with not one but two of the 2013 Protea Team anglers.

Bass Digest was fortunate enough to be invited for a session at Inanda dam by Rob Fisher and Kieron Samkin and of course we grabbed the opportunity with both hands.

Inanda Dam, built in 1989, with a surface area of approximately 1463 HA and a capacity of 241 700 000 cubic metres makes it one of the largest dams in the KZN area and is synonymous for big bass.

Ideally on Bassing Escapades we like to challenge our country's top anglers and see how they go about fishing waters they’re unfamiliar with or that have not been fished for some time. So when we were invited to fish Inanda, it was hardly a venue that these Protea anglers were not familiar with, but there was just no way we were going to miss an opportunity to get on a boat with these boys.

So we changed the rules a bit and set out a challenge for them to catch a decent 5 fish bag within a 3 hour time frame. To top it off they were limited to 3 lures of their choice upfront.

We all met at Rob’s place where I got to view the infamous “Man Cave” before tackling up and making our way to the dam.

Upon our arrival the weather looked ominous with a threatening storm and some wind to add to the flavour of the day. Nevertheless we quickly launched the boat and got going.

Given the 3 hour alotted time, both anglers had opted for reaction type baits which would enable them to cover water quickly whilst covering different depths of the water column, with the hope of enticing any active bass in the area.

The baits of choice were a Zara Spook for top water, a spinner-bait for sub-surface presentation and lastly a texas rigged creature bait, to cover the bottom which now made total sense. Kieron's first plan of action was to fish the wind blown banks and specifically target the main lake points on the rocky cliffs which were lined
