THEEWATERSKLOOF BASS CLASSIC 2014
Bass Digest/February, 2014
The Theewaterskloof Bass Classic is hosted annually by Tafelberg Bass Club and is generally held on the 3rd weekend of every January.
Entries fees are a mere R1000 which include gate fees, camping fees, slip fees and a meal on Saturday for both anglers participating.
Angling is from boats only, and these boats must meet the minimum SAMSA safety requirements and have a livewell onboard.
All fish that are caught are released
with a two fish bag limit per boat per
day and anglers are to bring their
heaviest two bass caught thoughout
the day to the scales. This format
levels the playing fields between
social and competitive anglers.
Biggest fish awards are only
awarded on angler's Sunday catches.
This leaves all anglers with the hope
that if they have a tough day on
day 1, then they still stand a
chance to be in the running on day 2.
Tafelberg have had allocated
R100,000.00 prize money for biggest
fish exceeding the predetermined
weight. Coincidentally this prize was
split to years ago by John Bulpitt
and Hayden Poulter as they both
weighed a 3.510kg fish. This year's
predetermined weight was set at
3.85kg's and was unfortunately not
exceeded, but wait for next year.
The Theewaterskloff Dam Bass
Classic Tournament for 2013 seemed
to have an unlucky connotation,
however 2014 changed all of that
for Tony and John.
John Bulpitt and Tony "FOX"
Jericewitch are old soldiers on the
SA BASS scene. Their tournament
strategy and game plan paid off for
them with a winning best bag, as
well as first and second biggest
bass honours over the TWK classic
weekend which was held on the 18-19 January.
The R100,000.00 grand prize for the biggest bass weighing over the predetermined 3.85kg remained elusive for a second year!
