At 15:00 we all went out again to see if we could
better our bags. Hendri got number 5 on his second
cast into the lillies. So both of us had our limit.
Tony’s boat was fishing some very skinny water,
but up on the trolling motor was some mysterious
woman wearing a dress. It turned out to be Tony
wearing the dress.
After this sight we decided to head back to the river
to see if we could upgrade our bags. I managed to
get a fish of 1.15Kg which also ended up to be the
big fish of the inhouse.
At the weigh-in there were a couple of limits. Tony,
John B, Hendri and myself all had limits. I have to
mention that Shagger also had a limit untill Tony
decided that he doesn’t like losing to his boat partner
and decided to accidentally let one of his fish jump
out of the livewell. Not to worry Shagger Tony will
get fined for this.
I have to mention Captain H aka John H, he gets our
Selous Scouts award for staying out on the water the
whole day. Unfortunately he only managed 1 small
fish. We all congratulated John B on his new Triton,
what a nice boat. The scores were tight after day 1
with myself in the lead with 4.08 kg, followed by
Tony and Hendri.
Day 2 started with lots of wind, which made the
fishing very tough. We decided to head back to the
river section as the fish we did get out of the river
seemed to be a little bigger. After about an hour I
managed to land 1 fish of about a kilo. We headed
back to the salad bowl. Hendri managed to get a fish
on his first cast. I was on with number 2 a while later. 20 minutes later I landed number 3, limit
full. Thanks to the Power Poles we managed to anchor in the weed patches, without them I would
not have filled my limit. Hendri managed another keeper.
We really had no set pattern, fish was sitting deep (8-12ft) but we also got fish in 2ft of water. All
Tony’s fish was taken in less than 3ft of water. We mainly fished 3 different baits. Gary Yamamoto
4” Senko in Amber Laminate, 8” Yamamoto Grub in Green Pumpkin and black horny toads.
