Page 1 February 2014 Report Venue: Rhenosterkop Dam Date: 8 - 9 February 2014 WINNERS WORDS by Hendri Oosthuizen Total fish: 8 Total Weight: 9.51 Kg Average weight: 1.19 Kg Fishing Conditions: We decided to have a little pre-fishing session on Friday afternoon. On arriving at the dam we were met with low water level. The dam is currently only 50% full. We decided to make a run towards the river section that used to be so good to us over the last couple of outings. Our normal areas in the river was now high and dry. Water temperatures was at 89°F. Water clarity ranged from very clear in the main dam to stained in the river section. We managed to find a good pattern during the first hour of fishing. So with our pattern figured out we decided it was time to head back. Saturday morning saw the whole club shooting off to the river section. After about 10 minutes Kobus had the first fish on the boat, 5 minutes later number two for Kobus on a Black Horny Toad, did the spinnerbait pattern change from yesterday? Was just about to put down the spinnerbait when BANG on with my first fish. A couple of cast later I was with a good fish, turned out to be a healthy 2.68kg. We continued fishing Spinnerbaits and horny Toads by 07:00 we both had our limits. By then there was another club on the water, and it was clear that the word was out that the river section was producing the goods, as almost all the boats was in the river. At the weight-in there were some nice bag bought to the scales. I had the lead going into day two with a limit weighing in at 6.88kg followed by John Connolly with a bag of 6.09kg which included a fish of 3.17 kg. This fish gave John the Big Fish Badge for the Inhouse. Pierre managed a bag of 5.71kg for third with a kicker of 2.98kg. Unfortunately due the hot conditions we lost a couple of fish. We will be looking at other options to ensure that we can keep our fish alive. Back to the Top
