Adult CPR Criteria
ADULT CPR CRITERIA 1. Recognises the need for prompt intervention 2. Completes a safety assessment 1. Checks for response (shout, shake or tap) 2. Check for signs of normal breathing - should not take longer than 10 seconds 3. Ensures assistance and defibrillator called for 4. Checks and opens the airway (chin lift/head tilt/jaw thrust) 5. Checks breathing (< 10 seconds) 6. Locates correct hand position in the centre of the chest - heal of one hand covered with the heal of the other hand 7. Commences 30 compressions (or continuous chest compression if unwilling/unable to perform rescue breaths) 8. Correct chest compression depth (1/3 chest depth, approx. 5cm) 9. Correct rate - 100 compressions per minute 10. After 30 compressions commences 2 ventilations, each over 1 second 11. Compressions continue while AED pads are applied 12. Positions AED appropriately 13. Turns AED on and follows voice prompt 14. Places pads correctly; CPR maintained during placement 15. Directs team to “not touch the patient” while analysing 16. Checks scene head to toe verbally states “stand clear” before shocking 17. Follows algorithm as per AED 18. Demonstrate correct assembly of bag mask device 19. Effectively ventilates patient (2-handed technique demonstrated if seal inadequate) PASS FAIL
