Night-time workers
urged to help keep
young people safe
Barnardo’s is urging nighttime workers to keep a look out
for vulnerable young people.
Perpetrators target young people
in bars, clubs and taxi ranks
so we want night-time workers
to stay vigilant and have the
confidence to report signs of
sexual exploitation and abuse.
We have trained thousands of
workers, including Transport for
London staff, to play a more active
role in protecting young people
from exploitation and abuse at
night time.
Barnardo’s has been tackling child
sexual exploitation (CSE) since
1994. In 2015-16 we supported
over 5,000 young people and their
families through our services
working with those who are
victims or at risk of CSE. This
includes our CSE direct support
services, which worked with 2,486
young people.
Little Leo takes on the Big Toddle
Children are never too young
to start helping others and Leo,
aged 13 months, showed you
can be small but still make a big
difference when he raised over
£250 for his Big Toddle.
Despite only just learning to walk,
Leo joined his peers on a half mile
sponsored stroll this summer. “It
makes me proud that Leo is helping
other children,” explains Jo-Anne,
Leo’s mother. “I’m so pleased he’s
started his fundraising journey with
Barnardo’s and I hope he looks back
and realises how important it is to
think of others and the differences
we can all make.”
Autumn 2016
The Big Toddle will celebrate its
20th birthday next year and has
raised over £14 million so far.
Thanks to hundreds of thousands
of children like Leo, little steps
really do make a big difference.
